he Jos University Teaching Hospital IVF centre on Sunday, 14th of April 2024 welcomed a set of quadruplets(two boys and two girls) to the family of Mr. & Mrs. Joseph Dung who before the arrival of the quadruplet had a daughter but had to wait for fifteen years before this blessing arrived.

According to the coordinator of the IVF/ART Centre, Prof. Chinedu Ekwempu said the mother of the quadruplets was brought in as an emergency at 33weeks(7 months) and the Doctors did all their best and both the mother and the babies are clinically stable and sound.

Prof. Chinedu said JUTH is one among the few tertiary hospitals in the country with a working IVF centre currently operating. While speaking to the mother of the quadruplets, Mrs. Rekiya Joseph Dung commented on the cost of the IVF. She said, “it is very fair as the hospital has subsidized the cost to the reach of average citizens and payments can also be made in installments ”. The mother is at the post natal ward while the babies are at the Special Care Baby Unit(SCBU).

The general public can take advantage of this facility and help solve the issue of infertility in the society. According to Prof. Chinedu, No woman’s womb is barren except with the cause of some factors that might lead to childlessness. Some of these factors are; Lifestyle, Sexual Transmitted Infections, Alcohol, Drug Abuse amongst many others.

As at the time of the interview, the babies were clinically stable and the mother is doing fine.
Mrs. Rekiya encouraged all waiting parents to be patient and seek medical advice on the issue while hoping on God.
The Father of the quadruplets said, he’s very happy and thanked God for this blessing and encouraged waiting parents to seek medical help and also said he is open to receiving support from well spirited individuals who are willing to come to their aid financially.
Prof. Chinedu also added that this is the first set of quadruplets the hospital has recorded among other successful trials at the JUTH IVF/ART centre. He also said that he hopes this success story will get the publicity which it deserves.
