BREAST CANCER AWARENESS SYMPOSIUM AT JUTH

The Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) hosted a significant Breast Cancer Awareness Symposium, drawing healthcare professionals and advocates together to discuss comprehensive care in breast cancer diagnosis, treatment, and support.
The event commenced with an opening prayer, followed by a warm welcome and recognition of distinguished guests in attendance. Opening remarks set the tone for the symposium, highlighting the importance of breast cancer awareness, early diagnosis, and access to advanced care.
Goodwill messages were delivered by notable representatives, including the HOD of Nursing, a representative from Pfizer, the Chairman of MAC, the Director of Administration, and the Chief Medical Director (CMD), Dr. Pokop W. Bupwatda, who officially declared the symposium open. The CMD, commended the HOD of Oncology for the initiative and thanked the participants for participating in the event while encouraging survivors and their families to not see cancer as a death sentence rather they should seek medical help in good time while hoping that the cases are managed properly before it gets worse.
A series of lectures were presented by prominent experts, Prof. Ismaila B. O. discussed the surgical management of positive breast cancer, Dr. Kwis Samuel covered management of hormone receptor-positive breast cancer, Dr. Mbwas Isaac Mashor shared insights into breast cancer diagnosis, Dr. Bwatyun A. Gyang addressed managing psychological conditions associated with breast cancer. Pharm. Irmiya Adamu presented on oncological pharmacy care in breast cancer diagnosis and treatment while, Nr. Asufi Joyce provided valuable perspectives on nursing care in breast cancer management.
To end the lectures, Nr. Alice Matawal focused on survivorship and life after breast cancer treatment.
The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks and closing remarks by Nr. Asemota, who expressed gratitude to all participants and highlighted the importance of continued collaboration in the fight against breast cancer.
