The North Central Zone of the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), Federal Health Institutions Sector, has called for improved welfare and working conditions for nurses and midwives to help address the migration of health professionals abroad.
The call was made during a courtesy visit to the Management of Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) at the Hospital’s Board Room. The delegation was led by the Zone Chairman, Comrade Korie Biola Bosede.
Comrade Bosede urged Management to support measures that would improve nurses’ welfare and encourage them to remain in Nigeria, noting that the “Japa syndrome” has contributed to manpower shortages and increased workload.
Responding on behalf of the Chief Medical Director, Dr. Pokop Bupwatda, the CMAC, Dr. Josiah Njem Miner, welcomed the delegation and encouraged healthcare workers to prioritise their health through regular medical check-ups.
He also called for continued collaboration between professional associations and hospital management to strengthen healthcare delivery
Also present were the Director of Administration, Mr. Tunji Adegboye; Prof. Chungching Miner; and Dr. Nankling Lamu.
