The Management of the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) has welcomed the Chief Medical Director, Dr. Pokop Wushipba Bupwatda, back to Jos following his reappointment for a second four-year tenure.
Dr. Bupwatda, who arrived through the Yakubu Gowon Airport, Heipang, was received by members of the hospital’s management team and other staff.
Speaking on his renewed mandate, the CMD expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, for the confidence reposed in him.
He described the second tenure as an opportunity to consolidate JUTH’s achievements, complete ongoing projects and address existing challenges.
Among the major priorities, he listed the completion of the 8th Additional Theatre Suite, Administrative Building and Phase Two of the Psychiatry project, which he said are at advanced stages of completion.
He also highlighted JUTH’s designation as one of six regional oncology centres, as well as plans for a Heart Institute and Interventional Radiology Centre, saying the projects would expand specialised healthcare services and reduce the need for Nigerians to seek treatment abroad.
Dr. Bupwatda further reaffirmed his commitment to staff welfare through timely promotions, professional development, merit awards and improved engagement with labour unions.
On operational challenges, he identified power supply and the implementation of Electronic Medical Records as key areas requiring attention. He disclosed that solar power systems had already been installed in critical areas, with plans to expand coverage.
The CMD also announced plans to improve diagnostic services, renovate ageing facilities and strengthen the hospital’s ICT infrastructure.
While appreciating JUTH staff for their resilience and dedication, Dr. Bupwatda urged them to see the second tenure as a collective responsibility.
“Without you, there is no JUTH,” he said, assuring staff, patients and the public that management would continue working to make healthcare delivery more efficient, seamless and dignified.
With the second tenure underway, the CMD said the focus would remain on consolidating achievements, completing major projects, improving staff welfare and positioning JUTH for greater excellence in healthcare delivery.
