Cardiologists from the Salam Heart Centre, an NGO based in Sudan, recently visited the management of Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) as part of their ongoing collaboration with the hospital. During the visit, they conducted follow-up checks on patients who had previously undergone surgery and screened new patients. Despite recent disruptions due to unrest in Sudan, the team successfully attended to 42 patients.

Dr. Njem Miner, Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee represented the Chief Medical Director, Dr. Pokop Bupwatda, during the visit. In his remarks, Dr. Miner highlighted JUTH’s commitment to continued collaboration with cardiologists and expressed deep appreciation for the Salam Heart Centre’s ongoing support. He also conveyed hopes for a swift restoration of peace in Sudan, which has impacted the regularity of their visits.

Although the initial Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with JUTH has expired, a new one is expected to be signed soon. The MOU is also meant to support the commencement of open heart surgery in JUTH.
The visiting team also honored Gene Estrada’s vision for pediatric heart surgery in various countries.

The JUTH management extended their prayers for the team’s safe travels as they prepare to return to Sudan.
