ACCREDITATION TEAM VISITS DEPARTMENT OF ANAESTHESIA AT JOS UNIVERSITY TEACHING HOSPITAL

The Department of Anaesthesia at Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) received a distinguished accreditation team today as part of an official evaluation exercise to assess the department’s capacity for continued training and service delivery at a national level.
The visiting team was warmly received by the Chief Medical Director of JUTH, Dr. Pokop W. Bupwatda, who was joined by members of the hospital’s top management. The visit forms a key step in maintaining the institution’s status as a center of excellence in medical education and specialist training.
In his remarks, Dr. Bupwatda expressed the hospital’s full commitment to maintaining high standards in patient care, education, and research. He highlighted recent strides made by the Department of Anaesthesia in upgrading facilities, expanding clinical services, and enhancing the quality of postgraduate training.
The accreditation team conducted a comprehensive inspection of the department’s clinical theatres, intensive care units, and teaching facilities. They also held interactive sessions with consultants, resident doctors, and other staff to assess the effectiveness of the training environment.
The accreditation team accessed and acknowledged the efforts of the department and commended the hospital management for its continuous support toward the advancement of anaesthesia services and education.
The outcome of the accreditation exercise is expected to further strengthen the department’s position as a hub for high-quality training and service delivery in anaesthesia, both within Nigeria and in the West African sub-region. The visit reinforces JUTH’s commitment to academic excellence, quality healthcare, and leadership in medical training.
