The Department of Nursing Services of Jos University Teaching Hospital, in collaboration with the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, officially commenced the 19th Annual National Nurse Managers’ Conference on 23rd June 2026 at the Tetfund Multipurpose Auditorium, JUTH Lamingo, Jos, Plateau State.
The opening ceremony brought together nurse leaders, healthcare professionals, and stakeholders from across the country to discuss issues affecting nursing leadership and healthcare delivery in Nigeria.
In her welcome address, the Head of Department of Nursing Services, Nr. Umar K. Mary, warmly welcomed participants and expressed appreciation for their presence. She emphasized the importance of continuous professional development and collaboration among nurse managers in strengthening healthcare services.
Speaking on the objectives of the conference, Nr. Asufi Joyce highlighted that the conference was designed to enhance leadership capacity, promote knowledge sharing, and equip nurse managers with innovative strategies for effective service delivery.
Delivering the opening remarks, the Chief Medical Advisory Committee Chairman (CMAC), Dr. Josiah Njem Miner, underscored the critical role of nurses in patient care and hospital administration. He commended the nursing workforce for their dedication and resilience in the healthcare system.
Goodwill messages were delivered by the Plateau State Commissioner of Health, Dr. Nicholas Baamlong, who praised nurses for their commitment to quality healthcare and encouraged continued excellence in service.
The keynote address and formal declaration of the conference open were delivered on behalf of the Chief Medical Director of JUTH, Dr. Pokop Bupwatda, by Dr. Josiah Njem Miner. In the address, the CMD reaffirmed JUTH’s commitment to supporting nursing education, leadership development, and improved healthcare outcomes.
The conference is expected to feature educational sessions, professional engagements, and strategic discussions aimed at advancing nursing management and healthcare delivery in Nigeria.
