Sightsavers is a nongovernmental organization that has been working in Nigeria for over 60 years donates opthalmology equipment to Jos University Teach Hospital as part of its partnership commitment in the Plateau state Inclusive eye care programme.
The donation was made on Friday 30th June, 2023 at the JUTH Lamingo, Jos.
In attendance were the CMD and JUTH management team, plateau state ministry of health representative, the sightsavers team led by its Country Director and gentlemen of the Press.
The reason for the donation of the ophthalmology equipments is to help decrease the alarming numbers of people with blindness from cataract and other eye diseases, and promote equality in opportunities for persons with disability, most especially in Plateau state.
Sightsavers Iternational along with The Christofel Blinden Mission had earlier entered into partnership with the Plateau state government to implement an inclusive eye health programme that will address the eye health needs of communities in Plateau state with the help and support of Jos University Teaching Hospital and other eyecare service providers in the state.
The programme will provide improved access to quality eye health services to a wider and hard to reach populations particularly in the central and southern zones of the state.
The items donated to JUTH management were;
- Portable Fundus camera
- Portable Tonometer
- Phaco-vitrectom machine
- Indirect Opthalmoscope(BIO)
The CMD, Dr. Pokop Bupwatda thanked Sightsaver for the donation of the equipments which is for the betterment of the people, this he said was a very good initiative.
He assured them that on the side of the management, they will make sure that the necessary measures are taken to ensure that these equipments function for as long as possible and also to ensure that their efforts are not wasted by making sure that communities in rural areas gets the expertise of eye care specialists in available in JUTH.
