In a bid to support the Federal Government’s campaign for a greener and healthier environment, the Federal College of Forestry, Jos, has donated 1000 varieties of tree seedlings to the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH). The tree planting exercise took place at JUTH Gate 1, marking a significant step in environmental sustainability and health promotion within the institution.
The event, which was graced by top dignitaries, was led by the Chief Medical Director of JUTH, Dr. Pokop Bupwatda, who applauded the initiative. In his remarks, the CMD welcomed the donation and affirmed that the seedlings would be well cared for. He emphasized the hospital’s commitment to nurturing the trees, noting that beyond beautifying the environment, the trees would serve a protective role by reducing the impact of windstorms.
“This collaboration is a step forward in making JUTH not just a place for healing people, but also healing the planet. Trees are vital to the ecosystem, and we are glad to play our part,” Dr. Bupwatda said.
The Provost of the Federal College of Forestry, Dr. Sunday Sambo reiterated the importance of continuous tree planting to combat environmental degradation. He praised the collaboration with JUTH and pledged to provide even more tree seedlings in the near future. “One of the most effective ways to address climate and environmental challenges is by planting more trees. This is not just a donation; it is a commitment to the future of our land and people,” Dr. Sambo stated.
The tree planting ceremony witnessed the presence of key figures within JUTH, including the Chairman Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC) Dr. Minner, the Deputy CMAC, Heads of Departments, nurses, and other staff members, all gathered in unity for a cause that benefits both the hospital and the broader community.
This landmark event signifies a growing partnership between health and environmental institutions, reinforcing the idea that a healthy environment contributes significantly to overall public health. As JUTH continues to uphold its role as a leading healthcare provider in Nigeria, its proactive stance on environmental stewardship sets a commendable example for others to follow.
