The Family Medicine Department at Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) marked World Family Medicine Day with a vibrant celebration, emphasizing the theme “Healthy Planet, Healthy People.” The event brought together healthcare professionals, patients, and staff of the hospital to highlight the critical role of family medicine in promoting overall health and well-being.
Dr. Suleiman, a leading voice in family medicine, spoke passionately about the importance of sustainable practices in healthcare and their direct impact on patient outcomes. He also added that a healthy environment is foundational to human health. By adopting eco-friendly practices, we can prevent diseases and enhance the quality of life for our communities, he added.
Prof. Chungdung Miner the Deputy C.MAC Research and Ethics, who spoke on behalf of the Chief Medical Director discussed practical steps healthcare providers and individuals can take to contribute to a healthier planet. Her talk included promoting green healthcare initiatives, and encouraging patients to adopt environmentally conscious lifestyles.
The celebration also featured interactive sessions, where participants asked about ways to integrate environmental health into everyday medical practice. The department showcased initiatives such as tree planting campaigns, clean-up drives, and educational programs aimed at raising awareness about the benefits of a healthy planet.
Dr. Naankling Lamu the Deputy C.MAC Clinical Services applauded the Family Medicine Department for organizing the event and reiterated the hospital’s commitment to sustainable healthcare practices. She encouraged everyone present to participate in tree planting at least one tree while hoping to get feedbacks by next year’s celebration.
The Head of Department Family Medicine, Dr. Mark Gyang in his closing remarks appreciated the management for their support toward making the World Family Medicine Day celebration at JUTH a success and highlighted the essential role of family medicine in fostering a healthy environment and underscored the department’s ongoing commitment to promoting sustainable health practices for a better future.
