DEPARTMENT OF MEDICINE, JUTH & UNIJOS HELD THE 3rd PROF. A.C. IKEME MEMORIAL LECTURE
The Department of Medicine, University of Jos and Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH), today successfully hosted the 3rd Prof. A.C. Ikeme Memorial Lecture, bringing together medical professionals, academics, students, and distinguished guests to honour the enduring legacy of the late Professor A.C. Ikeme and promote academic excellence in medicine.
The event commenced with the registration of attendees before the formal introduction of dignitaries and members of the high table. A solemn procession featuring the Head of the Department of Ophthalmology, the guest lecturer, the Head of the Department of Medicine, the Dean of Clinical Sciences, the Provost, and the Chief Medical Director (CMD) who was ably represented by Dr. Naankling Lamu, DCMAC- clinical services.
Following the opening prayers, the Head of the Department of Medicine delivered the welcome remarks, expressing appreciation to participants for honouring the memory of Prof. Ikeme and emphasizing the importance of memorial lectures in advancing medical education, research, and mentorship.
A citation of the guest lecturer was presented, after which the memorial lecture was delivered by Prof. C.D. Mpyet. The lecture highlighted contemporary issues in medicine while encouraging innovation, collaboration, and sustained commitment to quality healthcare delivery.
The programme also featured goodwill messages from various dignitaries which includes, the Head of the Department of Internal Medicine, the Dean of Clinical Sciences, the Provost, the Chief Medical Director of JUTH, a representative of the Ikeme family, and the President of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), of Plateau State Chapter, Dr. Casmir Kuntap Yilji, amongst many others. Speakers paid glowing tributes to the late Prof. A.C. Ikeme, describing him as a distinguished physician, educator, and mentor whose contributions continue to inspire generations of healthcare professionals.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Edah, who appreciated the organizers, guest lecturer, dignitaries, and participants for making the memorial lecture a success. Closing prayers brought the programme to an end.
