The Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) is among the major health institutions in Plateau State to benefit from the Federal Government’s latest intervention aimed at strengthening emergency healthcare response across the state.
The intervention was highlighted during the flag-off and commissioning of ambulances and tricycles in Riyom Local Government Area, where the Federal Government also announced the upgrade of the General Hospital and Trauma Centre, Riyom, to a National Trauma Centre.
The Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Ali Pate, represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Kachollom Daju, said the initiative was part of the Federal Government’s renewed commitment to improving emergency healthcare delivery across the country.
The state-of-the-art ambulances and tricycles are expected to enhance emergency response and facilitate timely transportation of patients, particularly in critical situations.
Speaking at the event, the Chief Medical Director of JUTH, Dr. Pokop W. Bupwatda, expressed appreciation to the Permanent Secretary for attracting several healthcare interventions to Plateau State. He assured that JUTH would make judicious use of the facilities provided to improve healthcare services and emergency response.
Also speaking, Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang, represented by his Deputy, Josephine Piyo, said the deployment of the ambulances aligns with his administration’s strategic investment in strengthening healthcare delivery across the state.
The State Commissioner for Health, Hon. Nicholas Baamlong, noted that the state’s ambulance system has contributed significantly to reducing mortality by improving access to timely emergency medical care.
Other healthcare institutions that benefited from the intervention include the newly upgraded National Trauma Centre, Riyom; National Orthopaedic Hospital, Jos; Plateau State Specialist Hospital; and Federal Medical Centre, Wase.
The development is expected to further strengthen collaboration among the benefiting institutions and improve emergency healthcare services for residents across Plateau State.
