GBONG GWOM ENDORSES JUTH’s ENDOWMENT FUND PUSH

The management of Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) has received strong backing from His Royal Majesty, Da Jacob Gyang Buba, the Gbong Gwom of Jos, for its proposed endowment fund initiative aimed at improving healthcare delivery, strengthening infrastructure, and advancing medical training.
The endorsement came during a courtesy visit by the hospital’s management to the royal father, as part of efforts to seek traditional leadership support for the establishment of the JUTH Endowment Fund (JEF), a long-term financing strategy designed to support the hospital’s growth and sustainability.
During the visit, the Gbong Gwom warmly welcomed the initiative and commended the leadership of JUTH for its forward-thinking approach to healthcare development. He pledged to support the project in his own capacity and expressed readiness to help mobilize prominent Nigerians and elder statesmen whose contributions would be instrumental to the success of the fund.
The royal father also indicated his willingness to spearhead a team that will champion the initiative, helping to promote and position the endowment fund among key national stakeholders and development partners.
According to him, the initiative has the potential to significantly improve healthcare delivery and outcomes, noting that a well-structured endowment fund would be highly beneficial to the people of Plateau State and neighboring states across the region.
The JUTH management, while presenting the proposal, explained that the endowment fund is aimed at expanding access to advanced medical services, upgrading healthcare infrastructure, and supporting the training of future healthcare professionals.
They further noted that a Board of Trustees will be constituted to oversee the fund, comprising respected individuals drawn from business, policy, diplomacy, and philanthropy. The board will be responsible for providing strategic direction, ensuring transparency, and mobilizing resources required to achieve the hospital’s long-term development goals.
Endowment funds have been successfully adopted by leading hospitals and universities around the world as a sustainable model for growth and innovation. With credible leadership and strong institutional support, proponents believe the JUTH Endowment Fund can provide stable, long-term funding for the hospital.
Within the next decade, stakeholders say the initiative could transform JUTH into one of Nigeria’s leading centers of medical excellence, serving millions of people while training the next generation of healthcare professionals.
