As a way of giving back to the university who made a huge impact to the life of a great philanthropist to humanity. Jos University Teaching Hospital on Monday 28th August, 2023 experienced a tremendous occasion of the unveiling of the remodeled ward 5 for Ophthalmology department, by Dr. Ibrahim Abubakr Kana (mni), an Almunus of the University of Jos and currently the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defense.
The event took place at the entrance of the ward, the Chief Medical Director Dr. Pokop Bupwatda, welcomed the presence of top Heads of Departments, Vice Chancellor of the University and the Dean, Faculty of Medicine and other individuals present at the event.
Dr. Bupwatda welcomed Dr. kana and thanked him for responding to his call to aid with the remodeling and renovation of the ward to a world class type. He said, Dr. Kana singlehandedly sponsored the remodeling and supervised it at all levels. He admonished and challenged other Associations, Unions in JUTH to adopt a ward and do same to help in raising the standards of the Hospital and provide a serene atmosphere for the patients which would in turn aid their recovery process.
Dr. Kana responding before he unveiled the ward appreciated some of his old lecturers present and said the University made him who he is and this was just a way of giving back to them and to humanity.
He also used the medium to call out other Nigerians and Jos indigenes to also try and indulge in projects like these so as to have a good healthcare system running all around the country.
Subsequently, Dr. Kana also said he is adopting the Intensive Care Unit (I.C.U) as his next project to work on with immediate effect. He then went ahead to dedicate the ward to his late Father who passed on recently before unveiling the ward properly. He was pleased with the outcome of the work while going round to inspect the ward after the cutting of the ribbon.
The Chief Medical Director on behalf of the management presented a gift as a way of appreciating and acknowledging the good work that he has done.
The Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee, Dr. Njem Josiah Miner gave a vote of thanks on behalf of the management.
