PLATEAU STATE YOUTH COUNCIL OF NIGERIA PAYS COURTESY VISIT TO JUTH

The Plateau State Youth Council of Nigeria (PYC) paid a courtesy visit to the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH). During the visit, the newly elected Chairman, Mr. Panan Gongden Dapar, introduced members of the new executive council to the Chief Medical Director (CMD), Dr. Pokop W. Bupwatda, and the hospital’s management team.
In his remarks, Mr. Dapar commended Dr. Bupwatda for his numerous achievements in lifting JUTH to greater heights. He highlighted the unity of the PYC, describing it as a body that transcends tribal, religious, and social differences, with a structure that represents youths both in Plateau State and across Nigeria.
The Chairman also expressed concerns about the rising cost of healthcare, noting that many less privileged individuals, displaced persons, and other vulnerable groups find it increasingly difficult to access medical services. He appealed to the CMD for support in alleviating these challenges.
Mr. Dapar further emphasized the importance of environmental sanitation, discouraging open defecation around hospital premises, which he described as a threat to patients’ recovery. He also urged the hospital to continue prioritizing employment opportunities for host communities, while commending the management for its efforts in staff welfare and in sustaining access to quality healthcare.
In his response, the CMD, Dr. Pokop W. Bupwatda, warmly welcomed the executive council members and congratulated them on their election. He encouraged them to remain steadfast, focused, and dedicated to addressing issues affecting the youth. Dr. Bupwatda also reassured the council that JUTH remains committed to improving healthcare delivery despite prevailing economic challenges.
