JUTH PSYCHIATRY DEPARTMENT MARKS WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY WITH AWARENESS LECTURE AT NYSC CAMP
The Department of Psychiatry, Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH), has commemorated World Mental Health Day with an awareness lecture for Batch C corps members at the NYSC Temporary Orientation Camp in Jos, Plateau State. The awareness programme was aimed at promoting mental health awareness, encouraging early help-seeking, and educating corps members on the importance of mental well-being.
The lecture was delivered by Dr. Emmanuel Tope Amupitan, who enlightened the corps members on the importance of mental health awareness and the need to seek professional support when experiencing mental or emotional challenges. Following the lecture, the JUTH Psychiatry team visited the camp clinic, where they sensitised healthcare personnel on mental health issues and the importance of recognising and responding appropriately to individuals experiencing psychological distress.
The team also offered support to individuals who required counselling, providing an opportunity for them to seek guidance and discuss their concerns in a supportive environment. The outreach underscores JUTH’s commitment to mental health advocacy, community engagement, and improving access to mental health information and support services.
The programme further highlighted the importance of creating awareness, reducing stigma surrounding mental health conditions, and ensuring that individuals who need help are encouraged to seek timely professional care.
