The antenatal clinic of Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) received a significant boost in its health education efforts with the donation of a 50-inch television set. The donation was facilitated by Prof. I.C. Pam and Dr. Grace Nimrod Absalom (nee Dasat), and was carried out by a delegation from the Health and Development Support Program, led by Mr. A. Dasat.
The initiative was inspired by Dr. Grace Absalom’s recent achievement as the best Part 1 candidate of the Faculty of Public Health and Community Medicine at the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria. As a way of giving back to the institution that played a pivotal role in her career, Dr. Absalom, alongside Prof. Pam, spearheaded the donation to support maternal and child health education at the hospital.
The television set was officially received by the management of JUTH, led by the Chief Medical Director, who was represented by the Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC), Dr. Njem Miner. Other key officials present at the handover ceremony included Prof. Miner, Deputy CMAC for Research and Ethics; Dr. Gyang, Deputy CMAC for Education and Training; Dr. Lamu, Deputy CMAC for Clinical Services; and Prof. Shambe, Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
The donated television will be used to run pre-recorded health education content focused on maternal and child health issues, providing valuable information to expectant mothers and their families. This initiative aims to improve health outcomes by empowering patients with knowledge and resources during their antenatal care.
To ensure the sustainability and security of the project, Prof. Shambe has provided burglary-proof measures to safeguard the television set. This thoughtful addition underscores the commitment of JUTH’s leadership to maintaining and protecting the donated equipment for long-term use.
The donation has been widely celebrated as a meaningful contribution to the hospital’s efforts to enhance patient education and care. Prof. I.C. Pam, Dr. Grace Absalom, and the Health and Development Support Program have been commended for their generosity and dedication to improving healthcare services in the community.
